When visiting Rome tourists are immediately struck by the magnificence of its Baroque architecture. The two men responsible for this are Francesco Borromini and Gian Lorenzo Bernini.

Two men so different in character and appearance but nonetheless both geniuses! Borromini dark and brooding, who committed suicide, Bernini flamboyant, good looking and a ladies man.Why not check out the church of Borromini San Carlo alle Quattro Fontane, with its curved facade, bending outwards and the exquisite courtyard with its balustrades that bulge first at the bottom then at the top. He was a rule breaker. The Picasso of architecture with his crazy geometrical designs.

About 200 metres down the road you can compare the church of Sant’ Andrea al Quirinale, designed by Bernini, which is very different with its theatrical interior telling the story of Sant’ Andrea’s crucifixion and finally ascending to heaven in a ray of light outlined in the golden lantern with its yellow glass that fills the church with golden light when the sun shines. Definitely worth a visit!
