Let our expert guides take you back in time as you descend the incredible hidden levels of ancient Rome to uncover secret stories of Christian persecution, strange religious practices and much more. Our tour will start with the Basilica of San Clemente, one of the most impressive and well-preserved monuments in Rome, famous for its three historical layers. The XII century Basilica, with its spectacular mosaics and frescoes is breathtaking but it’s what lies beneath that is truly impressive. The basilica was built on top of a IV century church that is still very well preserved, with its VI, VIII and IX century frescoes. This church was built on top of a I century Insula (apartment building) and III century secret Temple of Mithras (Sun God of Persian origin), with one of the last pagan altars still preserved. Our tour will continue with the beautiful XII century church of Santi Giovanni e Paolo al Celio, a stunning church, with one of Rome’s finest bell tower that dominates the gorgeous piazza. Inside many beautiful chandeliers light up the church. Underneath, however, are other hidden treasures, ancient roman houses and a gorgeous Nympheaum with spectacular mosaics and frescoes. These are just two of the highlights of our Secret Rome tour. Come with us and you’ll be walking into a magical time machine!
